Welcome to SummerVogel St Bernards
ABOUT US;
It had always been a life long dream of mine to own a St Bernard and then in 1991 that dream came true when we purchased our first St Bernard from the Nyesal Kennels in Nowra. Nyesal Simply The Best also known as Simba. He was the pick of the litter, and we had planned to show him and eventually use him as a stud dog and let him sire some litters. As all good plans the showing never became a reality and Simba became a much loved pet. As we didn't show him we thought it would be wrong to let him sire any litters ( I am a big believer in "giving to the breed before you take from it" and morally do not believe nor support so called back yard breeders or puppy farms).
In 2009, 19 years after our first St Bernard we purchased our second and whom is one of our current saints from Chris Innes and Terese Kelly of the Jaygaard kennels in Bringelly. Australian Ch. Jaygaard What About Me also known as Brandy who we campaigned in the show ring and gaining her Australian Champion title in January 2011.
Our third St Bernard is Summervogel Captain Crash better known as Rupert who is from our first litter of puppies born in May 2012. Rupert has just started his showing career and recently won a Baby Puppy in Group and placed 3rd in 3-6 months old Sweepstakes at a show in Nowra. Rupert is a very sound, well balanced St Bernard with one of the most desirable treatments I have seen in the breed - he is just awesome and although he is a big part of our family as is Brandy we feel he is going to do well in the show ring.
OUR BREEDING PROGRAM;
Our love for the breed coupled with the enjoyment we have had from owning Simba and Brandy has now led us to the next chapter of our adventure - Breeding! We have researched extensively the gene pool and the history of bloodlines here in Australia to ensure that our breeding program will do no less then compliment the current lines in the country now and into the future. We do not believe in breeding a bitch until she is at least 2 years of age and has been hip and elbowed scored. We are registered breeders with the Australian Kennel Club (Dogs NSW)
In May 2012 we successfully raised our first litter of sound, well balanced, happy and healthy puppies, our next litter is planned for sometime in 2013.
We pride ourselves in being a family based kennel focusing on breeding for health, quality, soundness and temperament, to provide our puppy buyers with a healthy happy puppies which will fit into their families forever. We also committed to breeding a breeding program based on the betterment of the breed in Australia, helping to increase the limited gene pool of the breed in this country.
At Summervogel it is not our intention to breed frequently - this is for the health and well being of our bitch. Brandy will only whelp 2 litters in her career then she will retire from the show ring and breeding to continue her life as one of our family members.
Along with our registration with Dogs NSW we are also active members and serving committee members of the St Bernard Owners Club
